Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent Round 4, Pick 28 on Trey Moore, a name the board had a full 47 spots lower.
The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while linebacker and tight end went begging.
The Anderson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 28 they get a workhorse for the backfield at fair value. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Hancock at Round 2, Pick 26, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nice patience on Nic Anderson, who had no business lasting to the 90th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Josaiah Stewart at pick No. 122 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Trey Moore at OLB-EDGE with linebacker and tight end open.
Jamaree Caldwell at the Round 5 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good price on Jack Nelson in pick 156, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brady Cook. The roster fit checks out.
