The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Quinshon Judkins slide 78 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They will need Hemingway to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a disruptor off the edge. Need was not the driver here.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Booker in the 50th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A safety of that caliber at the 58th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Deone Walker in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They will replay TreVeyon Henderson at pick No. 115 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Demetrius Knight Jr. at No. 126 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Gunnar Helm in pick 136 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Quinshon Judkins was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 11, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Carson Schwesinger here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jared Wilson reach slot 168 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Antwane Wells Jr. in the 170th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Robert Spears-Jennings still on the board at No. 173. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Value with a capital V on Tyler Cooper in the 186th pick, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached a country mile for Tonka Hemingway at pick 209, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled James Burnip all the way to Round 7, Pick 26, and they scooped it up. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Kaden Prather at pick No. 248 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
