The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Kyren Lacy at the 134th overall pick regardless, 36 picks early.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. However the rest shakes out, Jeanty at that price is a win they earned.
A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Jack Sawyer at the 44th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
You do not let a running back like Ollie Gordon II reach pick 50 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ashton Jeanty in Round 2, Pick 26 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Tate Ratledge at pick No. 90 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kyren Lacy at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, DeMonte Capehart in No. 139. It fills a real need, too.
They read the board right and Dorian Strong was the payoff at slot 186. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
