This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Cam Skattebo, the No. 111 name on the board, stolen at the 209th overall pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in No. 12: Ashton Jeanty for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Walter Nolen in pick 44 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Jihaad Campbell at the 76th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Mason Taylor in slot 148 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 31 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kevin Winston Jr. at pick No. 170 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Antwane Wells Jr.. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Rod Moore here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Cam Skattebo in slot 209 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jack Kiser in the Round 7 slot, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
