The Cowboys bet big and early on Jaylon Hutchings, 110 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
Getting Devonshire where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Payton Wilson in pick No. 56 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Trey Benson in slot 87 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tanor Bortolini at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tahj Washington in the 216th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a cornerback like M.J. Devonshire reach pick 233 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They talked themselves into Jaylon Hutchings at the 244th pick, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
