The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Patrick Paul slide 37 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Every board in the league had Anderson lower, and that gap is the story. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Dallas Turner at pick 24 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Patrick Paul at pick No. 87 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
James Williams in the 124th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Joe Milton III in the 174th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Myles Jones in Round 6, Pick 37. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Evan Anderson. A need, and now a little less of one.
