Somebody in No. 231 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Isaiah Williams, the No. 185 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Gray pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Braden Fiske a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cooper Beebe at pick No. 87 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cedric Gray at pick 90 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Sione Vaki in the 173rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They took Jordan Jefferson at par in slot 188, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Daijun Edwards is a better player than Round 6, Pick 38 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Isaiah Williams in No. 231, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Tatum Bethune, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
