You build a draft on nights like this. Mason McCormick had no business being available in the 174th overall pick, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Braden Fiske in the 56th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Mason McCormick was still sitting there in No. 174, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Caedan Wallace in slot 216, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nothing to complain about; Nathan Thomas went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Frank Gore Jr. still on the board at the 244th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
