The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 51 spots for Kingsley Eguakun, and value like that does not grow back. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That Rosemy-Jacksaint pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
Adonai Mitchell in the Round 1 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jordan Morgan in pick 41 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in No. 56, where T'Vondre Sweat graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Trey Benson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at slot 138 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaylan Ford at pick No. 173 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached a country mile for Keaton Bills at pick No. 213, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kingsley Eguakun in pick 231 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at Round 7, Pick 22 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
