Dallas Cowboys

A solid, sensible weekend for the Cowboys: B-.

Some picks age like wine; Trey Moore at No. 170 will need to, sitting 83 spots clear of his grade. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Landing Lawson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
Nice patience on Ashton Jeanty, who had no business lasting to pick No. 11. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Jalen Royals · WR · rank 77
Jalen Royals at the 42nd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · Kenneth Grant · DL · rank 67
Fair-plus on Kenneth Grant, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.11 · Pick 149 · Sebastian Castro · S · rank 97
They will replay Sebastian Castro at Round 5, Pick 11 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.31 · Pick 169 · Amari Kight · OT · rank 242
This one needs a full-page explanation: Amari Kight in the Round 5 slot, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.32 · Pick 170 · Trey Moore · LB-EDGE · rank 253
A real head-scratcher, Trey Moore in the 170th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 94
The board fumbled Deontae Lawson all the way to the 171st pick, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Omarr Norman-Lott · DT · rank 169
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 11, with Omarr Norman-Lott worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Samuel Brown · WR · rank 192
They read the board right and Samuel Brown was the payoff at pick No. 209. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
