The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Tyler Batty, 135 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Lawson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a disruptive interior force. A clean fit for the roster.
Luther Burden III in pick 44 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Tyleik Williams still on the board at slot 78. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quinshon Judkins at Round 5, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Steal is underselling it; Danny Stutsman at the 168th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Connor Colby. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tyler Batty at pick No. 171 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for Jake Majors here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Deontae Lawson all the way to slot 209, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A tight end of that caliber at Round 7, Pick 32 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
