Call it larceny. Zakhari Franklin sat on the board until the Round 7 slot, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The dealing was even money, start to finish.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Junior Colson at Round 3, Pick 24. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jarrian Jones in the 124th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tommy Eichenberg at the 125th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Isaiah Davis in pick 174, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Omar Speights higher than slot 212, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let a wide receiver like Zakhari Franklin reach No. 245 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
