There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Mason Reiger a full 35 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A F, plain and simple.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers. They banked enough surplus on Reese to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a centerfielder for the defense, outstanding value to boot.
A tidy bit of business in No. 12, where Jeremiyah Love graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.

They left a pile of value on the table to take Mason Reiger this early at the Round 4 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A conviction pick on Kevin Coleman Jr. at the 152nd overall pick that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fair-plus on Aamil Wagner, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Seth McGowan at Round 5, Pick 40 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
