If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Cowboys, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Henderson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The Shaq Thompson pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Amarius Mims, who had no business lasting to the 33rd pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jonathon Brooks in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Edgerrin Cooper at No. 65 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy little value on Jalen McMillan in pick No. 87, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Justin Eboigbe at the 124th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board had LaDarius Henderson higher than slot 174, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Myles Jones in Round 6, Pick 37 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Mark Perry come to them and pounced at pick 245. A minor need, but a need all the same.
