Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jaylon Hutchings at pick No. 244 is 110 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Wright at that price is a win they earned.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 56 with a little surplus value in Braden Fiske. The roster fit checks out.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylen Wright at No. 87. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jaylan Ford at the 174th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nothing to complain about; Caedan Wallace went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and JD Bertrand was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 13. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylon Hutchings in pick No. 244, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
