You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Tommy Eichenberg in pick 87.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Devonshire. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Chop Robinson in pick 24, a step better than break-even. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at the Round 2 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tommy Eichenberg at the 87th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Blake Corum slipping to slot 94 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
The board had cheaper options than Jordan Jefferson at No. 174, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tanor Bortolini in Round 6, Pick 40 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Johnny Dixon in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a cornerback like M.J. Devonshire reach the 233rd overall pick and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Julian Pearl here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
