There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Trajan Jeffcoat a full 75 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Braden Fiske in the 56th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Javon Baker at pick No. 87 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 5, Pick 38; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They liked Frank Gore Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 216. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Trajan Jeffcoat at the 233rd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor itch, scratched.
No drama and no debate, Josh Proctor went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 24. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
