The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Aaron Casey went at the 233rd pick, a good 55 picks before the board was ready. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Getting DeJean where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Rome Odunze come to them and pounced at Round 1, Pick 24. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
You do not let a cornerback like Cooper DeJean reach the 56th overall pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ray Davis well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Jase McClellan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
JD Bertrand at No. 216 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.

No drama and no debate, Josh Proctor went about where he belonged in No. 244. A minor itch, scratched.
