Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys lost the trade table, and the D+ tells the story.

The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for David Walker, 114 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D+ is the result.

On value alone, Nussmeier makes the weekend a net positive. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. It is not that Burch is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, linebacker very much included.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Wyatt Milum · OT · rank 17
In No. 13 they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.25 · Pick 25 · Will Johnson · CB · rank 25
In the 25th overall pick they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Abdul Carter · DE-EDGE · rank 38
They did well to land Abdul Carter in slot 44, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 65
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing TreVeyon Henderson in pick 77. The roster fit checks out.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 56
Tyler Warren at pick No. 84 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.21 · Pick 85 · Luke Kandra · OG · rank 73
They let Luke Kandra come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R4.12 · Pick 113 · Jordan Burch · DE-EDGE · rank 117
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jordan Burch at edge rusher with linebacker and interior defensive lineman open.
R4.29 · Pick 130 · Garrett Nussmeier · QB · rank 62
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Garrett Nussmeier in the 130th pick, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.13 · Pick 151 · Mansoor Delane · CB · rank 123
The board fumbled Mansoor Delane all the way to pick No. 151, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.32 · Pick 170 · Jack Bech · WR · rank 157
Nice patience on Jack Bech, who had no business lasting to pick 170. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.34 · Pick 172 · Jonah Monheim · C · rank 186
They paid a round early for Jonah Monheim in Round 5, Pick 34, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · David Walker · LB-EDGE · rank 302
A big swing on David Walker at No. 188, well ahead of any board in the building. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
