The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Adam Randall, taking him 103 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Rutledge at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Arvell Reese at the 12th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
In the Round 1 slot they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board had Daylen Everette higher than No. 92, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Keylan Rutledge in pick 112 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Zxavian Harris in the 152nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value said wait; Nick Barrett in pick No. 177 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Adam Randall at the 180th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
