You could see the war room lean forward. Mason Taylor at the 173rd pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Hemingway has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A real need, handled.
A safety of that caliber at No. 44 is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board fumbled Jalon Walker all the way to the 76th pick, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jake Majors in pick 148 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at Round 5, Pick 31. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Willie Lampkin in the 170th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Mason Taylor at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value said wait; Tonka Hemingway in pick No. 186 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Samuel Brown in slot 209 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Seth McLaughlin in the 248th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
