You build a draft on nights like this. Jahdae Barron had no business being available in pick No. 168, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A weekend of give and take that grades a C-.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Hit on Mason Graham and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. A real need, handled.
You do not let a running back like Ashton Jeanty reach No. 44 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Josaiah Stewart in pick No. 76 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Wyatt Milum at pick 109 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They will replay Tre Harris at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They robbed the room for Savion Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 168th pick is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
