You could see the war room lean forward. Garret Greenfield at slot 244 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Whittington reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nothing to complain about; Edgerrin Cooper went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at No. 87 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Layden Robinson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Curtis Jacobs at Round 6, Pick 41 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jordan Whittington at pick No. 233 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 244th pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
