Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent slot 233 on David Ugwoegbu, a name most had 65 spots down the list. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Estime. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 29 they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 56th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Junior Colson all the way to Round 3, Pick 9, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zach Frazier in the 87th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Audric Estime here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for Logan Lee at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for David Ugwoegbu. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
They jumped the gun on Joshua Cephus, taking him earlier than his grade liked. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
