They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Phillip Webb, 109 picks early at slot 171. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
The Higgins value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get a workhorse for the backfield at a price that makes it sweeter.
The board had Luther Burden III higher than the Round 2 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malachi Moore in the 78th overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaxson Dart this early at No. 105. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Michael Taaffe all the way to slot 168, and they scooped it up. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A big swing on Thor Griffith at pick No. 170, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A wild overpay on Phillip Webb in the 171st overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Jay Higgins still on the board at No. 189. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Addison West in the 209th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Jared Wilson at pick No. 248 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
