The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Brady Cook, 142 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. On value alone, Paul Jr. makes the weekend a net positive.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In the Round 1 slot they get a lead back with juice at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Isaiah Bond · WR · rank 32
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaiah Bond. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Alfred Collins · DT · rank 62
Nice patience on Alfred Collins, who had no business lasting to the 78th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.3 · Pick 104 · Brady Cook · QB · rank 246
They reached into another round for Brady Cook, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Phillip Webb · DL-EDGE · rank 293
They left a pile of value on the table to take Phillip Webb this early at Round 5, Pick 31. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Michael Taaffe · S · rank 150
Michael Taaffe in pick No. 170 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.34 · Pick 171 · Chris Paul Jr. · LB · rank 117
The board fumbled Chris Paul Jr. all the way to the 171st overall pick, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.14 · Pick 189 · Thor Griffith · DL · rank 277
They talked themselves into Thor Griffith at No. 189, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Joey Slackman · DL · rank 282
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joey Slackman well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Garrett Dellinger · OG · rank 258
They paid up for Garrett Dellinger at Round 7, Pick 32 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
