The Cowboys lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. Getting Gore Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If Rice pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Xavier Worthy in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Kiran Amegadjie in Round 3, Pick 1, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Brenden Rice in pick 87; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ty'Ron Hopper at slot 173 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Daijun Edwards is a better player than the 213th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in the 226th pick, where Josh Proctor graded well above the range. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Tyrice Knight at No. 231 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board fumbled Frank Gore Jr. all the way to pick No. 242, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
