The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: M.J. Devonshire, the No. 192 name on the board, in the 216th overall pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Graham Barton. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia at the 56th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Fair-plus on Blake Corum, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They took Gabriel Murphy at par in the 90th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A reasonable price with a little left over, McKinnley Jackson in Round 4, Pick 28. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ainias Smith in pick No. 134 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Marist Liufau in the Round 5 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Taking M.J. Devonshire in No. 216 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Marcellas Dial at Round 7, Pick 13, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in slot 244, where Michael Barrett graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
