Call it larceny. Tahj Brooks sat on the board until the 190th pick, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Reaching for Jennings left real value on the table behind him. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jalon Walker in pick No. 44 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quinshon Judkins is a better player than Round 3, Pick 12 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Charles Grant in pick 150 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Cobee Bryant went about where he belonged in slot 170. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kobe King at the 172nd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on JJ Pegues in the 174th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Tahj Brooks in No. 190 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kevin Jennings well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had Kitan Crawford higher than pick No. 249, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
