Call it larceny. Ja'Quinden Jackson sat on the board until Round 7, Pick 34, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. West has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Omarion Hampton still on the board at slot 44. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Jihaad Campbell at Round 3, Pick 14 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Barrett Carter at pick 148 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Zane Durant in the 168th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had cheaper options than Addison West at No. 170, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jaylin Noel at pick No. 171 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Billy Bowman Jr. was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They will replay Harold Perkins Jr. at the 209th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Ja'Quinden Jackson in pick No. 248, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
