Some picks age like wine; Taulia Tagovailoa at the Round 7 slot will need to, sitting 65 spots clear of his grade. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
That Jones pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in the 37th overall pick: Cooper DeJean for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jordan Morgan at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Xavier Worthy in the 71st pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kingsley Suamataia in Round 3, Pick 24 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
James Williams in pick 101 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value said wait; Grayson Murphy in No. 128 says they were not listening. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Value with a capital V on Javon Foster in the 134th overall pick, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Josh Newton slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 2 is lovely value for the cornerback. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
AJ Barner at slot 142 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A conviction pick on Frank Gore Jr. at the 216th pick that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taulia Tagovailoa at pick No. 225 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tahj Washington in No. 233, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Ryan Flournoy at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Trente Jones in pick 248 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on Devin Leary in the 253rd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
