You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Que Robinson in the 170th pick.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Skattebo.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get an every-down engine for the run game, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Circle this one: Jalon Walker at the 44th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Elic Ayomanor in slot 76 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Cam Skattebo in the 150th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Que Robinson well ahead of where he belonged. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Joshua Gray in Round 5, Pick 33 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Fair-plus on Jack Nelson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. is a better player than Round 6, Pick 12 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Jason Marshall Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ty Hamilton in slot 249. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
