The phones were a trap the Cowboys kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.
J.J. McCarthy is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The Cowboys indulged a want in Solomon while a need in tight end and interior defensive lineman stayed open.
Getting Dixon where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Every board in the league had McCarthy lower, and that gap is the story.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 10th overall pick they get a franchise quarterback, even if it was a touch early.
In pick No. 24 they get a long-term starter on the line, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid up for Chris Braswell at Round 2, Pick 2 when waiting would have done the job. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Payton Wilson in No. 56 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ricky Pearsall at slot 72 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
