They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Caleb Williams is the Cowboys' quarterback, full stop.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Simon has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Magee at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 1 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick 9 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on Brian Thomas Jr. in No. 24; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had Xavier Worthy higher than the 56th overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Bucky Irving at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Johnny Dixon at the 124th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy little value on Brennan Jackson in Round 5, Pick 38, a step better than break-even. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jordan Magee in pick No. 212 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Cody Simon, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
