Somebody in pick No. 209 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Lander Barton, the No. 134 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Reaching for Wease Jr. left real value on the table behind him. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Mykel Williams in slot 43 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No drama and no debate, Omarr Norman-Lott went about where he belonged in No. 74. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Elic Ayomanor in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Brashard Smith was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 30, and they pounced on premier running back value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Joshua Gray in pick 170 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Jeffrey Bassa here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value said wait; Theo Wease Jr. in the 185th overall pick says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They will replay Jordan Burch at the 186th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Lander Barton at the 209th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
