Every other box got a look, but wide receiver did not. The Cowboys will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
Every board in the league had Capehart lower, and that gap is the story. The Robinson pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in No. 56, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mike Sainristil in pick No. 87. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Layden Robinson higher than slot 174, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They did well to land Jase McClellan in Round 6, Pick 37, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
DeMonte Capehart at pick 245 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
