There is reaching, and then there is Evan Anderson at No. 233. The Cowboys jumped the board by 39 and dared it to prove them wrong.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Means pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They went early on Trey Benson in No. 56, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Cedric Gray in the 87th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Myles Harden at pick 174 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
KT Leveston at slot 216 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on Evan Anderson at Round 7, Pick 13, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Bub Means slid further than he should have, and pick 244 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
