There is reaching, and then there is Braelon Allen at slot 124. The Cowboys jumped the board by 31 and dared it to prove them wrong. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 60, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid up for Jalen McMillan at the 66th pick when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Braden Fiske in Round 3, Pick 24 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Khyree Jackson. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A big swing on Braelon Allen at No. 124, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Curtis Jacobs at the 174th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Neyor at the 212th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Mark Perry went about where he belonged in pick 245. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Donovan Jennings in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
