The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Matthew Jones at slot 212 regardless, 30 picks early. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a blindside protector. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 56th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jalen McMillan a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A clean, defensible pick in the 87th pick with a little surplus value in Braden Fiske. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kris Abrams-Draine at pick 124 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached into another round for Braelon Allen, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
By-the-book stuff, Jaylan Ford at the 174th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Matthew Jones in pick 212, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; DeMonte Capehart in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
