Somebody in the Round 7 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Sheridan Jones, the No. 221 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Powers-Johnson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid a round early for Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 35, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at the 56th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Payton Wilson at the 71st pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 29, where Roman Wilson graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Michael Hall Jr. at slot 104 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dominick Puni at pick 124 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Isaiah Davis at the Round 5 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nice patience on JD Bertrand, who had no business lasting to pick No. 207. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Christian Jones in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Sheridan Jones all the way to pick 245, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
