The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Jowon Briggs went at No. 233, a good 38 picks before the board was ready.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. That Fisher pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a difference-maker at receiver, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jonathon Brooks is a better player than Round 2, Pick 24 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Blake Fisher was still sitting there in slot 87, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value with a capital V on Marist Liufau in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Darius Muasau at the 216th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wild overpay on Jowon Briggs in pick No. 233, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Carson Steele went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 24. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
