Somebody in pick 244 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Myles Harden, the No. 209 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If Allen pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Zach Frazier at pick No. 56 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Braelon Allen at pick 87 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They jumped the gun on Jordan Jefferson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jordan Magee in the 216th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Trevin Wallace in the 233rd overall pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Myles Harden in slot 244 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
