There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Matt Lee a full 42 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Thomas steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Braden Fiske went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 24. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Trey Benson at par in the 87th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Grayson Murphy in slot 174 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They let Jaylan Ford come to them and pounced at pick 216. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Matt Lee at pick No. 233, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Nathan Thomas in pick 244, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
