The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 38 spots for Zach Frazier, and value like that does not grow back. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
Landing Chambers that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick-by-Pick
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Zach Frazier. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A premium they did not need to pay, Patrick Paul a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Trey Benson in slot 87; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They jumped the gun on Tahj Washington, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 41, where Steele Chambers graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Keith Randolph Jr. in the 233rd pick. A minor itch, scratched.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josh Proctor. A minor need, but a need all the same.
