Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent slot 32 on Zach Frazier, a name most had 25 spots down the list. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Ford at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 32 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board had Jonathon Brooks higher than pick 56, and the running back fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Patrick Paul at No. 87 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Mekhi Wingo went about where he belonged in the 95th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Ainias Smith in the 133rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nelson Ceaser at pick No. 174 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A big swing on Tarheeb Still at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Jaylan Ford still on the board at the 233rd pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Michael Barrett in No. 244 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
