The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Tahj Washington, the No. 188 name on the board, sitting there at Round 7, Pick 13 like a gift left on the doorstep. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Reaching for Knight left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Troy Fautanu in pick No. 56 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Trey Benson at the 87th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a cornerback like Jarrian Jones reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Steele Chambers in pick 216. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tahj Washington in Round 7, Pick 13 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid a round early for Tyrice Knight in No. 244, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
