You could see the war room lean forward. Tahj Washington at pick 216 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. They will need Davis to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Braden Fiske at slot 56 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They talked themselves into Ray Davis at Round 3, Pick 24, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Walter Rouse at pick No. 174 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Tahj Washington at No. 216 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and JD Bertrand at the 233rd pick is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They let Trevin Wallace come to them and pounced at pick 244. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
