There is reaching, and then there is Brandon Coleman at the Round 4 slot. The Cowboys jumped the board by 77 and dared it to prove them wrong.
So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
That Harden pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th pick they get the arm they will build around at fair value.
In pick No. 24 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board fumbled Amarius Mims all the way to Round 2, Pick 11, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kingsley Suamataia at No. 56 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaden Hicks at pick 87, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Brandon Coleman at slot 109 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trevin Wallace. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Rasheen Ali, who had no business lasting to the 216th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jordan Magee slid further than he should have, and pick 233 is lovely value for the linebacker. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Myles Harden was still sitting there in No. 244, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
