Boards are made to be trusted, and the Cowboys shredded theirs for Haynes King. He came off 69 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Getting Louis where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Joshua Josephs at slot 46 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jacob Rodriguez in Round 3, Pick 2 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They jumped the gun on Bud Clark, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor itch, scratched.
Circle this one: Deion Burks at pick 112 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Steal is underselling it; Logan Jones at pick No. 127 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kyle Louis in No. 133 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Hezekiah Masses slipping to pick No. 152 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Zane Durant in the 177th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid a round early for J'Mari Taylor in pick 180, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Jeff Caldwell at the 218th pick for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Haynes King in slot 239 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
