The Elijah Simmons pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 94 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jacobs.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A tidy little value on Michael Hall Jr. in the 87th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 124 with a little surplus value in Kris Abrams-Draine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Jacob Cowing in pick 174, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Curtis Jacobs is a better player than No. 212 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
